About Me

I’m just your average, ordinary mom of 3 amazing children and wife to an incredibly supportive and loving husband. I live in a small town in Ontario, Canada and I love it!! Being a people-person, I thrive on being able to walk down the street and say hi to everyone I meet.

Some random interesting (and some not so interesting) facts about me:

  •  I have a weakness for dark mint chocolate
  • I suffered from a debilitating depression that almost took my life in 2009
  • In my spare time I love reading blogs, but still love reading “real” books
  • I am not a writer, but I love writing encouraging words
  • In spring 2008, I was invited to church for the first time…it changed my life
  • God transformed me – from an atheist to a Christ Follower
  • I worked for a Christian organization in Family Services, then for my home church, and now am the Executive Director of a Men’s Shelter and Soup Kitchen
  •  Listening to music fills me, but I can’t sing a note
  • Completed a couple triathlons and ran a ½ marathon
  • I love tea, but enjoy a really good cup of coffee
  • I love leading, encouraging and  inspiring people
  • As a teen, I rebelled against authority and did things I wish I hadn’t
  •  I love my church and being part of a church community
  • My husband and I lived in Prince Edward Island, Banff, Alberta and England
  • I have dual Citizenship in Canada and Britain (My parents were born in England)

Why am I writing a blog? Good question. I love encouraging and helping people. As a mom, I’m always helping my kids (two teenagers and an almost teen always have needs! 😉  I worked as a Community and Family Service Coordinator at the Salvation Army, which gave me the privilege of helping the under-resourced in my local community. At church I served in Guest Services, helping the unchurched have an unforgettable first time experience, as well as a Women’s Small Group Leader Coach, encouraging development and empowering leaders to thrive.  Now I am currently the Executive Director of The Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and Men’s Shelter, helping those experiencing homelessness find a safe place in our community.

And in my everyday life, I have conversations with people who are suffering from mental illness, almost on a daily basis. Yep, I’m called to help people. My goal through this blog is to share thoughts and experiences on depression, community, health and following Jesus as a new Christian, while encouraging feedback and conversations. Feel free to read, share, comment. Take what works for you, and leave the rest behind.

All my thoughts and opinions are my own. I do not judge others for their choices and beliefs, and hope that you have the same respect. Some of my nearest and dearest family/friends do not share my beliefs and that’s okay. We love each other regardless!

2 Corinthians 1:3-7 (NIV)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.
